As a doctoral researcher of project A03 of the SFB-TRR 161, I am researching “Quantification of Visual Explainability.” During my research stay from February to May 2023, I joined the Visualization and Graphics (VIG) group at the Utrecht University.
My Research Stay at Aalto University, Finland
In early 2023, PhD student Yao Wang visited Aalto University in Finland. On our blog he reports on his research stay.
My Research Stay at the ETH Zürich
Doctoral researcher Christoph Schulz spent three months at the ETH Zurich working on order-statistical measurements for graphs and networks to assess representativeness.
My Research Stay at the University of Utah
During my research stay, I joined the Visualization Design Lab (VDL) at the University of Utah, which is led by Prof. Miriah Meyer and Prof. Alexander Lex. It is embedded in the larger Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCI).
Research Stay at the University of Oregon in Eugene
Last summer, I went for a three month research stay at the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR, USA. I closely collaborated with the research group on Computing and Data Understanding at eXtreme Scale (CDUX) led by Hank Childs. Their work is closely related to my research within the SFB-TRR 161 at the Visualization Research Center at the University of Stuttgart. In the collaborative project, we worked on performance prediction in hybrid in situ environments.
Results from my Research Stay at InnoVis in Calgary
During my research stay at InnoVis, University of Calgary, Canada I worked with Lindsay MacDonald Vermeulen, Jo Vermeulen, Charles Perin, Wesley Willett, Thomas Ertl, and Sheelagh Carpendale on a project, which recently was accepted to the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics.
Research Internship at Oculus in Redmond
In summer, I was at Facebook/Oculus in Redmond (USA). My internship was in the perceptual science group at Oculus Research. My work was closely related to my thesis topic as well as to my work in the SFB-TRR 161 at the Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems, University of Stuttgart (Germany). I was responsible for the development of a study design, the experimental apparatus, and conducting a user study in virtual reality to investigate the effect of virtual hands on tactile perception.
Three Months in Calgary
This summer, I spent three months at the Ilab at the University of Calgary. My supervisor Sheelagh Carpendale is head of the InnoVis group which is part of the Ilab. I had the opportunity to visit the Ilab through the MIN Program: Mentoring International for Female Natural Scientists at the University Konstanz and which was funded by the Transregional Collaborative Research Center (SFR-TRR) 161. During my time, I worked with five great researchers evaluating a website developed and designed by them.
